Join us for an exciting author meet and greet and book discussion/book signing. Step back to the closing days of World War II and into the early childhood memories of Herta Crull. Some of these are her personal memories. But much of this book is based on Herta’s memories of stories told to her as a young child by a school friend whose mother escaped from Berlin shortly before the fall of Germany. It is the story of a journey of over 300 miles and of the adventures and hardships of a young mother as she struggled towards southern Bavaria, pushing her tiny daughter’s baby carriage. Throughout her long life, Herta has always been fascinated by these true stories and thought they ought to be saved. At last, she collaborated with her friend, Margaret Pasztor, who brought these memories to life. 

Herta Crull was born in Germany in 1942. She studied French and English at a German Language school. She continued her studies at Cambridge University and at the Berlitz and at Alliance Francaise language schools in Paris. In Paris, she met an American soldier whom she would marry and have two children. The family later settled in America where she would work as a translator, travel agent, and tour guide. She has also contributed articles to the women’s social section in Harrisburg’s newspaper, The Patriot News
