Aging Through the Eyes of Artists In-Person
This workshop will review famous works of art from the 15th century to the present that feature images of older people. Some depictions are touching and inspiring; some are shocking; and some are humorous. They tell us about persistent archetypes and changing cultural perspectives on what it means to be old. Most importantly, how we relate to specific artworks can provide insight into our thinking about our aging selves.
The presenter, Glen Dunbar, has graduate degrees from the Center for Aging Studies at the University of North Texas and the School of End-of-Life Studies at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. His primary career was as a policy specialist for State and Federal entities devoted to Aging matters. After retiring, he began an encore career of teaching gerontology at a variety of colleges and universities.
